our dye process
Our dye process begins by first washing and drying the "blanks".
We soak the items in soda ash for about 20 minutes and machine spun until just damp.

Next, the fabric is manipulated in various ways. Folding, twisting, scrunching, and spiraling.
Then securing with different tension levels we control the dye flow to create the design effects.

We place them into dyeing vessels. Add ice and selected dye chosen from our swatches. We watch over the pieces as the dye melts. Monitoring for good dye saturation and spraying with a soda ash solution if necessary to continue the dye flow. Good dye flow is critical with the ice dye method.

After the ice has melted, the processing time begins. The dye must remain on the items for 24-48 hours. Next, the items are hand rinsed and pre-washed to remove any excess dye.

The items are machine washed in hot water with a triple rinse cycle, dried and ironed. Lastly, tagged and brought to our store front at Live Freely Market.
